I’m one week in to my 12-week challenge with Fernwood gym, and so far, so good. I certainly haven’t been perfect, but we’re going for progress, not perfection, this time around.
Sharing food with little ones can turn even the simplest meal into a small celebration of family life. Toddlers and babies love to explore new textures, colours, and flavours, and mealtimes often become a playful mix of curiosity and mess. Parents quickly learn that patience, a sense of humour, and plenty of wipes are essential ingredients. Whether you are spooning puree or watching a toddler mash pasta with eager hands, food is one of the earliest ways children connect with the world around them and with the people who care for them every day.
Balancing nutritious choices with the realities of a busy household is a familiar challenge for many mothers. Between nap times, school runs, and the everyday juggle of work and home life, quick and wholesome options often become the foundation of family meals. Simple recipes that can be adapted for both adults and small children help take the stress out of dinnertime. Preparing food together, even in small ways, also gives children a sense of involvement and pride, turning ordinary ingredients into shared moments that the whole family can enjoy around the table.
For parents raising multiples, mealtimes can feel like a small logistical adventure. Feeding triplets or several young children at once requires planning, a well stocked fridge, and a willingness to embrace a little chaos. Many families find that batch cooking, easy to grab snacks, and flexible routines make the day run a little more smoothly. Sharing these experiences with other parents can be reassuring, reminding everyone that perfection is not the goal. Sometimes a shared plate of something simple, eaten together on the floor, is more than enough to create a happy memory.
Children often develop lifelong food preferences during their early years, which is why introducing a variety of flavours early on can be so rewarding. Repeating exposure to different fruits, vegetables, and grains helps little ones become more confident eaters over time. Parents may also notice that a food rejected one week can become a favourite the next, a reminder that patience pays off. Keeping mealtimes relaxed and pressure free encourages a positive relationship with food, allowing children to listen to their own hunger cues while still exploring the wide world of tastes available to them.
Food is also closely tied to culture, tradition, and the simple pleasures of everyday family life. Passing down favourite recipes, celebrating special occasions with shared meals, and gathering around the table after a long day all help create a sense of belonging. For mothers balancing many roles, cooking can be both a creative outlet and a way to show love without saying a word. Even the most ordinary ingredients, prepared with care, can become part of the everyday moments that children remember long after they have grown.

I’ve never been more amazed by the human body and what it’s capable of before now. After having triplets almost 10 weeks ago, I stop and look at our little miracle babies everyday and wonder how the hell they all fit in my belly. I’m only 5.4” so not really the ideal body type to be having multiple babies. But, I did, and I managed to birth three very healthy babies, totaling an impressive 7kgs between them (plus 3 placentas which would take the total up to around 10kg!)
Now I’m not a lactation expert by any means, but I am breast feeding 3 babies so I have been doing my research on how to increase my milk supply. There are lots of things you need to do in order to increase your supply, such as get heaps of rest (yeah right!), drink lots of water and eat extra calories – basically, looking after yourself!
Aside from looking after yourself (which isn’t always easy to do when you’re looking after little ones), you can also treat yourself while boosting your milk supply. This is one of my favorite Smoothie recipes that I have created based on ingredients that are all said to increase lactation, and it’s delicious!
